Most of the figures i have painted lately have not needed basing, so no photos i'm afraid.
Except for this short bearded fellow, the first of my adventure party for Otherworld skirmish.
More soon!

Legion of the Damned
Damned finecast!!
painted these boys up, probably took as long to clean the castings and fill the little holes in the resin as they did to paint. But they eventually turned out very well I think

Imperial Fist Space Marine
I've never really been into garish colour schemes on miniatures. When I paint Sci Fi and fantasy I still like to make the figures look natural. So I thought I'd challenge myself by choosing a bright colour scheme and do my best to make it look believable. I also didn't want to go OTT with the battle damage, which seems to be all the rage these days. So here you go, what do you think?

the Grey company
The Rangers of the Grey Company dressed in dark grey cloaks and wore a silver brooch shaped like a pointed star during the War of the ring. They armed with spears and bows.
Like their distant cousins, the Rangers of Ithilien, the Rangers of the North spoke sindarin in preference to the common tongue. They were led by a Chieftain, whose ancestry could be traced back to Elendil and beyond, to the ancient Kings of Numenor.
During the War of the Ring the Rangers of the North were led by Aragorn, but the northern Dúnedain were a dwindling and widely scattered folk. When Halbarad received a message to gather as many of the Rangers as he could find then lead them south to Aragorn’s aid, only thirty men (the Grey Company) were available at short notice for the journey. The Grey Company met up with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli at the Fords of Isen in Rohan, and at Pelargir, along with the Dead Men of Dunharrow, they captured the ships of Umbar. The Dead Men then departed and the others continued on to fight in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. There, Halbarad was killed. They also fought with Aragorn at the Battle of Morannon.
Well only 30 showed up for Aragorn, but theres 48 here!!
just Halbarad to do to complete these guys ;o)

Osgiliath veterans
Continuing on with the War of the ring theme, here are a group of 32 veterans. I will have a few historicals to show before the weekend followed by a massive unit of foot knights of Dol Amroth which i'm basing up right now.
Its my birthday on Friday and i'm hoping to treat myself to a new project, if I'm patient I may wait until Salute. But i'm not known for my patience.

Knights of Dol Amroth
The Knights of Dol Amroth or The Swan Knights were a group of soldiers who served Prince Imrahil during the Third Age of Middle Earth. On March 9, 3019, Prince Imrahil led a company of Swan Knights to Minas Tirith to help defend the City. Prince Imrahil led the sortie that rode to the aid of Faramir and the rear-guard who were retreating from Osgiliath when the forces of Sauron overran the Pelennor Fields on March 13. Notable actions of the Knights during this battle included rescuing Faramir from the Southrons, and riding to the aid of the Rohirrim, fighting long and hard until the arrival of Aragorn.
These are GW plastics, great figures although the detail is lacking depth

Ruglud's Armoured Orcs - The Spike-Can Commandos
Another fun unit of 80s Orcs, you can't beat a bit of nostalgia
The Crooked Eye Orcs had travelled many miles westward to the Old World, suffering the sniping of mountain Goblins, incessant rain, and the endless whining of Bambrag, their incontinent shaman.
Once, they skirted a ruined Dwarfhold. Fear of spirits kept them from sheltering inside, but, a single Orc Hero named Ruglud had dared to enter. He returned unharmed, but had not spoken since, and stated blankly into space.
The Orcs huddled in the rain before a rough stone wall across a narrow pass, while Chief Gudruk Bonechewer yelled at a figure on the battlements.
'Stoopid!', he screamed, 'Do we look like Chaos boys?'
'Zog off!' echoed the reply.
Gudruk returned to the tribe, dodging the hall of stones and garbage that accompanied this witty riposte.
'Lissen,' he said. 'Them kak-'ead Gobboes reckon the Chaos boys took ev'ryfink over. They ain't comin' out an' they ain't lettin' nuffink through. They got bows an' rocks an' spears an' stuff - if we was to try and get 'em, they'd crump us to bits.' He thought for a while.
'We needs volunteers', he announced at length. His warriors developed a sudden and compelling interest in the ground at their feet.
'Or armour', whined Bambrag, 'Couldn't touch us if we 'ad cans like real Chaos boys.'
'We ain't got cans, 'ave we, Trickle-legs?' snarled Gudruk.
'Cans... jus' lyin' where they dropped... all black an' spiky.'
It was Ruglud who spoke. Gudruk gave him a good shake to speed the recovery of his senses, and he continued dreamily.
'Down this Stunty-hole... lotsa rooms ... lost... big room... big enough to stand up in ... big pile of bones an' gear... spiky Stunties an' reg'lar ones... wiped each uvver out...'
'Yerrrss!' cried Gudruk, 'We'll 'ave some o' that! Come on, boys - it's Goblin-gizzard for supper!'.
A swift expedition returned to the Dwarfhold. The ill-fitting plates were roughly hammered into shape and held
together with whatever came to hand. By nightfall, a small unit of armoured warriors was ready.
As the gear's discoverer and the bravest, meanest and certainly the most stupid Orc, Ruglud was made leader, At Gudruk's suggestion, Bambrag became the regimental musician on the Xylobone, a traditional Orcish instrument, and Maggot - Gudruk's youngest and most irritating whelp - joined the ranks as standard-bearer.
The tribe feasted upon Goblin-flesh long into the night - all except for Ruglud, who couldn't get his helmet off, and was reduced to sucking broth through a straw.
Gudruk is equipped with heavy armour and a two-handed sword.
Saving Throw: 5, 6
Ruglud is equipped with heavy armour, a shield and is armed with two
swords. Note that the shield provides no protection when fighting two-handed.
Saving Throw: 4, 5, 6/ 5, 6 when using both swords.

BATTLECRY |
The most frequent battlecry is a repetitive chant
of 'Gobbo fer tea, Gobbo fer tea, Gobbo, Gobbo, Gobbo fer tea!',
with 'Stunty', "Uman' and so on being substituted for 'Gobbo'
as appropriate.

DEEDS | The Commandos' first victory led to many more as they pushed across the Worlds' Mountains towards the old World. Most of these were over isolated Goblin strongholds, and are remembered only in the stories and drinking songs of the Crooked Eye Orcs - and then in versions which are probably wildly exaggerated. one confirmed exploit was the storming of Karak-Bazik, an outlier to the great Dwarven settlement of Zhufbar, when the Dwarfs were obliged to abandon the Dwarfhold and cave in a series of connecting tunnels to cover their retreat. |
UNIFORMS | There is no uniform as such; the commandoes are dressed in a wide and miscellaneous range of armour. |
SHIELDS | The Commandos never bothered to re-paint their shields to a standard design, so this varies widely. |

Space Wolf Rune Priest
I have finally finished my Rune Priest and he is ready to lead my growing wolf pack.
I have enjoyed painting these 40k models, as it has made a nice change from all the historical stuff I have been doing lately.
I have been messing about with some wolf guard terminators including my version of the Iron Wolf himself.
First I must clear my desk of Punic war goodies. Photos soon :o)

on the workbench
Just a couple of pics to show what I am working on at the moment.
First up is an American infantry platoon from Artizan designs for big Mike. This is designed to go with the excellent "rules of engagement" rules from Great escape games. First 8 are finished bar the varnish and basing. Just another 26 to go!

Grey hunters pack
Well I guess you may be getting a little bored of these by now but i couldn't resist showing a few group shots.
I am pleased with the end result, the only drawback is they did take a hell of a long time to paint. 37 hours in fact.
The only figs I can remember taking that long have been my Samurai shown below, and that doesnt include the many hours trawling through books finding reference material, which really is all part of the fun.
Again these were a real joy to paint and a huge investment in time, I must get on with finishing the rest of the force at some point.
But for now on my work bench I am converting a rune priest to lead the wolves. For all you more interested in the historical side of things I also have a WW2 American infantry platoon and some more Punic wars goodies waiting patiently for the paint brush.
Well I have booked tonight off work and the Mrs is out with friends. I plan to take the kids swimming to ware them out and if all goes well they will be in bed for 7, Which will give me a good few hours at the desk.
If all goes well I will bring you an update in the morning.
wolf standard
Here are the last two members of the pack. One as you may notice is carrying a wolf standard, these allow the pack to reroll all rolls of a 1 during a combat phase. This would be great for my good friend Pat to use, he always seems to roll a 1.Originally I was planning to do a free hand design on the flag, but it was getting late and this LBM transfer was crying out to be used.
Heres a couple of pics of the start of my board, all pretty simple and basic just to try a few things out. If i am feeling brave the next one may be a little more elaborate.

Space Wolf colour test
Here is the first of my Grey Hunters. I debated for a while whether to go blue/grey as codex or a more German grey. I have already painted a space marine force in grey a few years back (I will try and find some pics). Also I have a thing for Oxford blue so I thought I would give it a try. Eventually I went for a base coat of Vallejo Grey Blue. Then i shaded in the recesses with a mix of watered down GW Fenris grey and Vallejo Chocolate brown . Once this was dry i began highlighting by mixing Blue grey with GW space wolves grey with the final highlight of space wolf grey. I am pleased with the overall colour scheme and will now crack on with the rest.
The company marking on the left shoulder pad is my version of Egil Iron Wolfs great company. I intend to keep this project pretty small, Every squad will be motorised and supported by tanks, this and a cool idea for a conversion for Egil himself has drawn me to the 12th company.
